Dental agenesis is the absence of one or more teeth, being a common condition in dental practice. It can be caused by genetic or environmental factors and is often associated with syndromes. The prevalence of this anomaly ranges from 0.3% to 11.3%, being more common in women. The upper lateral incisors are the most affected teeth. The diagnosis is made through radiographic examinations. The two main treatment options for missing lateral incisors are: space closure or space maintenance for later rehabilitation. The treatment should be chosen based on the patient's preferences, detailed diagnosis, and the specific conditions of each case, considering the patient’s age, bone condition, occlusal pattern, and aesthetic expectations. The approach should be multidisciplinary, aiming to restore both function and dental aesthetics in a lasting way.
